What did you do this past week?

I worked on some side projects that I had been putting off until a less busy time. In addition, I finished up my lab for Network Security. I haven’t spent much time on Phase 4, but my group has set aside time to work next week. I also went home for the weekend to celebrate Diwali with my family.

What’s in your way?

I want to get past a major roadblock in my personal project, which has been bugging me for a few days. Also, our postman doc link is somehow broken for the second time in a row, so we have to figure that out.

What will you do next week?

My group and I are due to refactor our code and possibly change its design, as it sometimes feels clunky. In addition, we want to take another look at our data and the way we store it. We also have to prerecord our presentation. I want to get as far as I can in my project before finals start up in a few weeks.

If you read it, what did you think of The New Methodology?

I like the agile methodology alot, so learning more about it was interesting. I like how it emphasizes the difference between creating other things, like houses and tools, and software. I think this is an important distinction to keep in mind when developing software.

What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)

I have used SQL extensively in previous internships, and it is always nice to get a refresher. It is a very simple language, as it is easy to write and understand, but it can also get very complex due to its powerful functionality. The syntax is possibly my weakest point; I always have to look up how to use certain keywords.

What made you happy this week?

I got a gift package from my grandparents for Diwali with all my favourite foods. I haven’t been able to see them in a while due to COVID-19, so it was nice to hear from them.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Oftentimes, when doing personal projects, I get bored or distracted and eventually forget about them. A trick I’ve found that helps is to involve other people and keep each other honest about working and prevent procrastination.
